A Community Initiative for an HIV Free Generation
A Community Initiative for an HIV Free Generation is a project by Help a Child and Livingstonia Synod AIDS Program (LISAP) in Mzimba District in Northern Malawi, that focuses on the Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT). The intervention is based on a Church and Community Mobilisation Process (CCMP) and strongly involves community structures in addressing major problems around HIV and Maternal Health.
Care Groups and Mother Buddies are in the forefront to support pregnant women, address cultural myths and stigma, and to collaborate with the health centre to address loss to follow-up in PMTCT. The project successfully engages the fathers as well hence, the project aims to promote talking about Parent to Child Transmission instead of Mother to Child Transmission. This video follows the work of Mother Buddy Oreen, who as a mother living with HIV herself, committed to assure that no child is born with HIV. A Community Initiative for an HIV Free Generation is a project funded by the Positive Action for Children Fund.
