Our Community Our Future

Sahara Centre for Residential Care and Rehabilitation was established in 1978 and has been active in providing multi-layered services to marginalised populations affected by HIV, AIDS, TB, Poverty and drug use. Comprehensive needs and rights-based services includes health care provision with a HIV focus, addressing mental-socio-economic issues, poverty reduction, gender equality and empowerment.

Sahara is a peer-led organization that focuses on the most vulnerable and poor children, young people, women and families living with HIV. To date, 10,000 families are registered with Sahara Aalhad and they keep coming. Its partners are Keep a Child Alive, ViiV Healthcare and Proctor & Gamble but its strongest ally in the Indian public health care system.

Volunteers spend time doing range of activities and it's near impossible to tell the difference between the staff and patients; this is because of the 'home environment' and the togetherness created between people. There is a powerful pro-life, positive living focus that lifts the spirits, heals the deepest of scars and propels people into a better healthier space.
